One Year Course

Course Content

The BTEC Foundation GNVQ offers a basic introduction to art and design. Students on this course will begin to develop an understanding of the work of other artists

and crafts people. They will also, through their own work, begin to explore line, colour and form during practical workshop sessions. Students are introduced to a variety of materials and methods. They are encouraged to explore and experiment with visual ideas and techniques. All students prepare a folder of work and are required to evaluate and present this.

The course introduces a variety of art and design skills including:

  • Collage

  • Designing and Making 3D Objects

  • Drawing

  • Introduction to Computer Graphics

  • Painting

  • Photography

  • Pottery

Students will also develop their presentational skills and be asked to give evaluations of their own and others work.

Method of Assessment

Students are assessed through assignments and their portfolio of work.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course but applicants should have a genuine interest in art, craft and design. Students who would benefit most are likely to have either an entry qualification, a standard of literacy and numeracy which would enable achievement, or some related work experience.

Opportunities

This course will enable students to prepare a portfolio of work for progression onto either the Intermediate GNVQ in Art & Design or as preparation for employment or further training.
