BTEC Intermediate GNVQ Art & Design

Two Year Course

Course Content

The Intermediate GNVQ provides a more in depth introduction to art and design than the Foundation GNVQ. Students will acquire an understanding of the work of other artists and crafts people. Through their own work, they will develop an understanding of line, colour and form during practical workshop sessions. Students are introduced to a wide variety of materials and methods and are encouraged to explore, experiment with, and discuss visual language. All students will prepare a folder of work and will be able to evaluate and present this.

The course covers a variety of related subjects such as:  

  • Collage

  • Drawing

  • Introduction to Computer Graphics

  • Painting

  • Photography

  • Pottery

  • Presentation Skills

  • Writing Evaluations

  • 3 Dimensional Design

Method of Assessment

Students are assessed through assignments, their portfolio of work and external tests.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally possess 2 GCSEs (grade ‘D’ or above), an appropriate Foundation GNVQ, or equivalent qualification. They will also need a portfolio of recent Art and Design work and be able to provide satisfactory references.

Opportunities

This course will enable students to prepare a portfolio of work for progression onto either  specialist National Diplomas in Art & Design or as preparation for employment or further  training.
