BTEC National Diploma Design Crafts

Two Year Course

Course Content

The National Diploma in Design Crafts is a broad based design course which introduces students to a variety of craft skills. The course aims to encourage interpersonal and business skills, practical problem solving and the development of a personal, strong and varied visual language. All students will prepare a folder of design work and will be equipped within the course to evaluate and present their own work.

The course covers a variety of design craft related subjects such as:

  • Ceramics

  • Design Business Methods

  • Drawing and Exploring

  • Jewellery

  • Metal Work

  • Professional Practice and Presentation Skills

  • Specialist Computer Applications

  • Textiles

  • Wood Techniques

Method of Assessment

Students are assessed through assignments and their portfolio of work.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally possess 4 GCSEs (grade ‘C’ or above), an appropriate Intermediate GNVQ, or equivalent qualification. They will also need a portfolio of Art and Design work and be able to provide satisfactory references. Applications from indivduals with relevant previous experience, including mature students, are particularly welcomed.

Opportunities

This course will enable students to prepare a portfolio of design work and equip them with the necessary skills to seek employment, work as a craft person or progress to further study, either at HND or degree level in one or more design craft disciplines.
