Two Year Course

Course Content

The National Diploma in Graphic Design offers a focused programme which develops creative graphic design, interpersonal and business skills. The course focuses on problem solving and the development of a personal visual language suitable for the design industry. All students will prepare a folder of design work and will, on completion of the course, be equipped to evaluate and present their own work.

The course covers a variety of design related subjects such as:

  • Developing Concepts for Advertising

  • Exploring Graphic Design Ideas

  • Illustration for Publication

  • Mixed Media Image Making

  • Professional Practice and Presentation Skills

  • Specialist Computer Applications

  • Working with Type in Design

Method of Assessment

Students are assessed through assignments and their portfolio of design work.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally possess 4 GCSEs (grade ‘C’ or above), an appropriate Intermediate GNVQ, or equivalent qualification. They will also need a portfolio of Art and Design work and be able to provide satisfactory references. Applicants from individuals with relevant previous experience, including mature students are particularly welcomed.

Opportunities

This course will enable students to prepare a portfolio of design work and equip them with the necessary skills to operate at junior designer level. It also represents an ideal route for students wishing to progress onto either a HND or degree course in Graphic Design or a design related discipline.
