BTEC National Diploma Caring (Social Care)

Two Year Course

Course Content

This course is designed for people who wish to enter a caring profession and covers a wide range of compulsory subjects. It offers an ideal progression from the First Diploma in Care. Subjects covered are as follows:

  • Applying Sociology and Psychology

  • Care Services

  • Equality, Diversity and Rights

  • IT, Research and Project

  • Lifespan Development

  • Personal and Professional Development

  • Practical Caring Skills

  • Promoting Health, Planning for Care

  • Protecting Self and Others

  • Supportive Skills

  • Vocational Practice

Additional studies can include:

  • British Red Cross Certificate in First Aid

  • British Sign Language (Year 2)

Students also attend placements in a variety of care settings and with a wide range of client groups. A one week residential placement, in the first year of the course, provides valuable hands-on experience.

Method of Assessment

Students are assessed by assignments.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally possess 4 GCSEs (grade ‘C’ or above), an appropriate Intermediate GNVQ, or equivalent qualification. They will also need to provide satisfactory references. Applications from individuals with relevant previous experience, including mature students, are particularly welcomed.  

Opportunities

This qualification enables students to enter degree level programmes and training for teaching, nursing and social work. Alternatively, they can go straight into work in a variety of health and social care settings, including community work and the health service.
