CACHE Diploma Child Care & Education (NNEB)

Two Year Course

Course Content

The Diploma in Child Care and Education (NNEB) is an internationally recognised qualification designed to train individuals who wish to work with young children. All aspects of child development are covered in the course, including emotional, social, physical and intellectual skills. Students also carry out practical tasks in a variety of different settings, such as day nurseries, schools and family placements.

All students undertake a period of work placement where they can develop and put into action the principles of good practice previously learnt in the classroom.

Method of Assessment

Students are continuously assessed throughout the course by means of assignments, work-based assessments and external examinations at the end of the two years.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally possess 4 appropriate GCSEs (with at least 2 passes at grade ‘C’ or above), an appropriate Intermediate GNVQ, or equivalent qualification.  Experience of working with children would be an advantage and applicants will also need to provide satisfactory references. Applications from mature students are particularly welcomed.

Opportunities

Once qualified, students find they are able to work with children in a variety of different environments. In the private sector there are opportunities in nannying, private day care nurseries and as children’s reps in overseas resorts. Students who wish to work in education can work in infant schools and in mainstream education with children who have special needs. In hospitals there are openings for play specialists and in the social services there is the opportunity to work in day nurseries and family centres.
