BTEC Intermediate GNVQ Information & Communication Technology

One Year Course

Course Content

The Intermediate GNVQ course aims to provide both a preparation for a career in ICT and the necessary skills, flexibility, knowledge and motivation to progress to further studies. Students find out about the tools and techniques for working with information and develop confidence in using ICT. They are given the opportunity to analyse information needs in different contexts, investigate the impact of IT on modern society and explore ICT in action by visiting and working with a wide range of organisations. 

Subjects studied include:

  • Handling Information

  • Hardware and Software

  • Information Resources

  • Presenting Information

  • Programming

The course may include visits to various commercial and industrial sites. Students also take part in a period of work experience to consolidate learning.

Method of Assessment

Students are assessed through assignments and external tests.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally possess 2 GCSEs (grade ‘D’ or above), an appropriate Foundation GNVQ, or equivalent qualification.  They will also need to provide satisfactory references.

Opportunities

This qualification can lead directly to work with information services and systems, in banks, retailers and government agencies. Alternatively students could progress onto the BTEC National Diploma in Computing or other non-computing oriented National Diploma or Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education courses .
