BTEC Intermediate GNVQ Engineering

One Year Course

Course Content

The Intermediate course covers the same compulsory units as the Foundation course but builds and extends on the work done at that level. It broadens the knowledge of students moving up from the Foundation course whilst at the same time offering an appropriate level of study for students who join the course with GCSEs.

The following optional units are studied:

  • Applied Science and Mathematics  for Engineering

  • Electronic Principles and Applications

  • Engineering Measurement Application

Method of Assessment

Students are assessed through set assignments, external tests and case studies.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally possess 2 GCSEs (grade ŒD¹ or above), an appropriate Foundation GNVQ, or equivalent qualification.  They will also need to provide satisfactory references.

Opportunities

This qualification helps students to progress onto higher level qualifications such as an Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education or A levels. Alternatively, it can lead to a range of jobs in manufacturing or associated trades such as vehicle engineering and electrical work.
