City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing

Two Year Course 

Course Content

This course prepares students for full or part-time employment within the hairdressing industry. Students cover both the practice and theory of hairdressing, undertaking all the basic skill areas, including:

  • Blowdrying

  • Colouring

  • Consultation

  • Cutting

  • Health and Safety

  • Perming

  • Setting

Students also have the option of studying beauty therapy units and a period of work experience is offered in the second year of the programme. An intensive course is available for mature students and attendance can be arranged on a flexible basis.

Progression to NVQ level 3 provides the opportunity for further creativity and employment opportunities. 

Method of Assessment

Students are assessed through continual practical, theoretical and oral assessments, as well as external verification.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course but applicants will require a basic level of numeracy and communication skills. They will also need to provide satisfactory references. Applications from individuals with relevant previous experience, including mature students, are particularly welcomed.

Opportunities

Students who complete this programme will be well prepared for work in small private businesses, large city centre salons, aboard luxury liners and in film and television studios. Self-employment through salon ownership or franchising is also a possible option.
