Course
Content
Students
on this course practice food preparation/cooking and food service
in the realistic working
environment of the Collegešs Witham Room Restaurant,
which is open to the general public. They are encouraged to organise
special events and undertake work experience.
Students
also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of visits organised
as part of the course. These have included trips to the BBC Good Food
Show, food suppliers such as Cadburys and a number of top London hotels.
Where
applicable, students can work towards EMFEC Pastry Cooks 2 and 3 qualifications.
Method
of Assessment
Students
are assessed continuously through practical exercises in the Collegešs
restaurant and production kitchen.
Entry
Requirements
There
are no formal entry requirements for
entry onto the NVQ level 1 course but applicants will require a basic
level of numeracy and
communication skills. They will also need to provide satisfactory
references. For level 2, applicants should already have achieved
level 1, or equivalent. Applications from mature students are particularly
welcomed.
Opportunities
The NVQ
level 1 course is suitable for anybody
who wishes to enter the industry at practitioner level, perhaps as a
chef, waiter or waitress.
Students who achieve the NVQ level 2 will also enter
the industry at practitioner level but with a view to eventually reaching
supervisory grade. |
