Two Year Course

Course Content

This course provides a broad-based programme which allows students to build upon a range of theoretical and practical perspectives. It aims to offer flexibility and choice according to individual needs and interests. 

Subject areas covered include: 

Year 1

  • Investigating Travel and Tourism

  • Tourism Development

  • Travel and Tourism in Action

Year 2

  • Customer Service

  • Marketing

  • World-wide Travel Destinations 

To enable students to experience travel and tourism in action, a residential field trip takes place in the first year. Students travel to the North West of England, where they make a series of visits to locations such as Granada Studios, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Liverpool Docklands and Manchester Airport. In the second year students travel overseas to a mediterranean resort, such as Majorca. These visits provide a focus for much of the assessed work.

  • Working as an Overseas Representative

In addition students are given the opportunity to gain industry approved qualifications such as:

  • ABTAC Primary

  • ABTAC Advanced

  • Air Cabin Crew Foundation Course

  • AVIS Car Hire

  • ETB Welcome Host

  • RSA Spanish 

Method of Assessment

Students are assessed through assignments and external tests.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally possess 4 GCSEs (grade ŚCą or above), an appropriate Intermediate GNVQ, or equivalent qualification. Applications from individuals with relevant previous experience, including mature students, are particularly welcomed.

Opportunities

Former students of this course have gone onto careers in travel agency management as well as work with airlines, tour operators, tourist information centres and hotels. It is also possible to use the course to progress onto an appropriate HND or degree programme.
