One Year Course

Course Content

This qualification provides a general introduction to the leisure and tourism industry. Students cover major areas such as customer service, marketing and promotion within leisure and tourism. Also, as part of the course they get the chance to have golf and canoeing sessions, as well as visits to various leisure centres and tourist attractions, such as Alton Towers. Optional units available include:

  • European Travel Destinations

  • Impact of Leisure and Tourism

  • Running an Event

  • Sport and Activity Leadership

Students can also, if they wish, study for relevant additional qualifications.

Method of Assessment

Students are assessed through assignments and external tests.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally possess 2 GCSEs (grade ŒD¹ or above), an appropriate Foundation GNVQ, or equivalent qualification. They will also need to provide satisfactory references.

Opportunities

Students completing this course will be prepared for a range of jobs in places such as arts, conference and fitness centres, as well as heritage sites, hotels, sports centres, swimming pools, theme parks, tour operators, transport operators and travel agents. Alternatively, students can progress onto either the Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education in Travel and Tourism or the equivalent in Leisure and Recreation at the College.
