One Year Course

Course Content

This course has been designed to equip students to a high level of competence in secretarial skills and to train them in the new technology which businesses will require in the new millennium. It is ideal not only for school leavers who wish to train for a career as a secretary/administrator, but also for anyone either returning to the job market after a career break or needing to retrain. 

Students will work towards a portfolio of different qualifications, which can include: 

  • Communication Skills

  • Desktop Publishing

  • Information Technology

  • NVQ Administration

  • Presentation Graphics

  • Shorthand

  • Spanish

  • Word Processing

They will also have the opportunity to progress through different levels of examination according to their ability. All students attend a three week work placement with a range of local organisations. 

Method of Assessment

Students are assessed through external examinations and in-course assessments.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally possess 3 GCSEs (grade ŚCą or above), an appropriate Intermediate GNVQ, or equivalent qualification. They will also need to provide satisfactory references. Applications from individuals with relevant previous experience, including mature students, are particularly welcomed. 

Opportunities

Students who complete this course will be fully competent in the use of a modern computer with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office software. They will be ideally prepared for roles such as that of junior secretary or office administrator and be capable of operating with skill and confidence in a busy office environment.
