Two Year Course

Course Content

This broad-based programme investigates the leisure and recreation industry and examines aspects such as customer service, safe working practices and marketing within the industry. Students also look at leisure and recreation in action and the sports industry.

  • Fitness Testing and Training

  • Outdoor Adventure Activities

  • Principles of Sports Coaching

  • Sport and Recreational Leadership 

Additional units include: 

  • Basketball Leaderıs Award

  • Community Sports Leaderıs Awards

  • Higher Leaderıs Award

  • Junior Team Managerıs Award  (Football)

  • National Pool Lifeguard

The course includes the opportunity to undertake study trips both in the UK and overseas. Students who wish to progress onto a teaching programme are advised to take an additional A level alongside the GNVQ course. 

Method of Assessment

Students are assessed through assignments and external tests.  

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally possess 4 GCSEs (grade ŒCı or above), an appropriate Intermediate GNVQ, or equivalent qualification. They will also need to provide satisfactory references. Applications from individuals with relevant previous experience, including mature students, are particularly welcomed.  

Opportunities

Completion of this course can lead to higher education, or it can open opportunities for employment in the sport and leisure industry as facility managers, sports coaches and health and fitness personnel.
