BTEC First Diploma Sports Science

One Year Course

Course Content

The First Diploma in Sports Science has been designed to introduce students to the wider study of sport. The course examines areas such as:  

  • Anatomy for Sport

  • Factors Affecting Sports Performance

  • Health and Safety in Training

  • Outdoor Pursuits 

In addition the course examines how sport is organised in the UK and how this affects employment and career prospects. 

As well as these areas of study, practical sport is also included in the course. Students can choose from a variety of options including basketball, football, hockey, netball and swimming. They also have the opportunity of representing the College at sporting events. 

Method of Assessment

Students are assessed continuously throughout the course. 

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course but applicants will require a basic level of numeracy and communication skills. They will also need to provide satisfactory references.  

Opportunities

Completion of this course provides individuals with the basic knowledge and skills required to begin a career in the sport and leisure industry. The course equips students with the necessary experience to make an informed choice about their future pathway in this exciting industry. Where appropriate it can also enable students to progress onto the National Diploma in Science (Sport) at the College.
