Two Year Course

Course Content

Students on this course are introduced to a wide range of activities concerned with the provision of sport in this country. They are given the chance to study the science related to sporting activities and how this knowledge leads to improvements in performance. In particular the course covers:

  • Biomechanics

  • Core Sciences

  • Exercise Physiology

  • Fitness Development

  • Nutrition for Sport

  • Psychology

  • Sports Injuries

  • Sports Organisation

  • Sports Performance and Coaching

  • Work Experience

Practical sport is included in the course and there are ample opportunities, for those who wish to do so, to take part and on occasions represent the College in a variety of different sports. These include basketball, football, hockey, netball and swimming.

Method of Assessment

Students are assessed through assignments.

Entry Requirements

Applicant should possess 4 GCSE's (grade 'C' or above), an appropriate intermediate GNVQ, or equivalent qualification. They will also need to provide satisfactory references. Applications from individuals with relevant previous experience, including mature students, are particularly welcomed.

Opportunities

Students completing this course can go onto work as professionals in the sport and leisure industry, either as sports coaches or sports participants. There is also an opportunity for progression to the HND in Sport (Science and Recreational Management) at Grantham College or a degree in Science or Sports Science.
