Introduction

Head of Student Services: Gerry Short

The Student Services Unit

The student services unit can be found in Elsham House. Here there are opportunities to access all the advice, guidance and support necessary. The Student Services Unit will be able to help with welfare, childcare, counselling, careers advice, accommodation, Higher Education applications and the development of individual learning programmes.

Trained staff are always available to help. All full time students will be allocated a personal/course tutor according to the programme of study selected. Your tutor has responsibility for your welfare whilst you are at Grantham College. Your tutor will help you formulate an individual action plan and keep a record of achievement. They will discuss with you any problems, monitor your progress and help you to make important decisions about your future. They will also write your references for employment or Higher Education.

Careers Adviser and Careers Library

Careers education and guidance is available to everyone, both current and prospective students. The Higher Education adviser provides help with applications and preparation for interviews. The college also operates a 'Helpline' service to place students in Higher Education after results are published.

Student Counsellor

The counsellor can be seen by any student wishing to discus his/her personal problems, difficulties or concerns, whether they be college or home based. This service is totally confidential.

Student Accommodation

For students who cannot live at home when studying at Grantham College we provide accommodation in the Halls of Residence. Please ask for information from the Student Support Officer.

Students who are having difficulties with their finance or benefits can make an appointment to see the Student Support Officer in the Student Services Unit.

Principals Discretionary Fund

This fund exists for small loans and grants to help towards the cost of childcare, examinations, books, materials and travel for students in need; please contact the student services unit.

Students' Association

The Students association is a democratic organisation within the college and all students are encouraged to join. The Students' Association presents students' views to College management, represents students on college committees, and organises student entertainment and social events.

Chaplaincy

The Chaplaincy provides a link between the College and the Church. The Chaplain welcomes the opportunity to see any member of the college, and appointments can be made through the reception desk in the Student Services Unit.
